DOCUMENTING THE FACE OF AMERICA (Dir. Jeanine Isabel Butler)
It began as a New Deal project to document the scope of poverty during the Great Depression. But under the leadership of Roy Stryker, photographers working for the Information Division of the Farm Security Administration became agents of social change. They created an astonishing archive of photographs that formed a portrait of America, a portrait that many would have preferred not to see. The collection, now preserved in the Library of Congress, is a priceless national legacy, and includes the work of Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks, Walker Evans, Arthur Rothstein, and many others.
