"American Jouster" examines the motivations and lifestyles of modern day knights who live a life of pain and glory on the road. The documentary covers three separate renaissance festivals during the course of a year to reveals how the companies structure their performances and what goes into training horses, squires and fellow knights. Personal interviews, backstage rehearsals and performance footage explore the dangers of performance, the trials and tribulations of a life on the road, the difficulties of family life and the close-knit bond that holds these men and women together. Filmmaker Bio
Richard P. Alvarez is a California based filmmaker and former jouster who began his professional career in 1974 as a television cameraman, (KHTV) and went on to become a newscaster, (KODA fm) and producer of theatrical extravaganzas (International Action Theatre). He's won numerous awards for screenwriting and filmmaking, and works as a freelance television director in the Bay Area.
