Britain has old unsolved murders too, you know, and even DNA analysis. In Waking the Dead, Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd pulls together a Cold Case Unit charged with combing through old evidence for new clues. Workaholic Boyd has a bit of an anger management problem, plus his fervor is driven by the disappearance, years earlier, of his teenaged son. Assisting him are Grace Foley, a feisty, somewhat hardboiled forensic psychologist; careful Detective Spencer Jordan who often plays "good cop" to Boyd's "bad cop"; and assorted other pathologists and detectives come, go, and even die on the job over the course of the seven years of the series. All the characters are deeply affected by their gruesome work, and bitter arguments amongst them aren't unheard of.

- Trevor Eve (Peter Boyd) has a recurring role as Sir George Stubbs in Poirot, played Velior in the 2004 film "Troy" and had a small role in 2002's "Possession." He also was cast, quite perfectly one expects, as Mr. Murdstone in a 1999 version of "David Copperfield" — the one with Daniel Radcliffe pre-Harry Potter fame as young David, Zo‘ Wannamaker as Miss Murdstone, and Maggie Smith as Betsey Trottwood.
